چکیده

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne zoonotic disease, endemic in Africa, with high case fatality rate. There no efficient treatment or licensed vaccine. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of CCHFV cattle extensive grazing systems (both pastoralism and ranching) within Maasai Mara ecosystem, Nanyuki, Ol Pejeta Conservancy Kenya. We conducted seroepidemiological sera 148 from 18 households three ecosystems 2014, 2016, 2019. Sera 23 sheep 17 goats were also obtained same during period. analyzed for presence antibodies using commercially available double-antigen ELISA kit. Overall, 31.5% seropositivity was observed. The CCHF multiple logistic mixed model main predictors. Risk factors associated exposure age (p = 0.000) season 0.007). Our findings suggest point as likely reservoirs might play role providing better insights into disease risk dynamics where analysis tick populations these regions should be further investigated.

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus in Hyalommid Ticks, Northeastern Kenya

As part of ongoing arbovirus surveillance, we screened ticks obtained from livestock in northeastern Kenya in 2008 to assess the risk for human exposure to tick-borne viruses. Of 1,144 pools of 8,600 Hyalomma spp. ticks screened for Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever virus by reverse transcription PCR, 23 pools were infected, demonstrating a potential for human exposure.
